I set of early this morning, in fact I was up and showered by 0330. I couldn't sleep I was like a kid on christmas eve waiting for Santa to arrive, Well what do you expect after waiting for two years? Just because I am an old godger doesn't mean that I am not allowed to get excited about something.
Anyway back to today's blog, after packing the bike I was on my way by 0430. I headed into the city and rode out to Beaudesert on the mount Lindsay Highway, a highway it isn't however it is a great bike road. For those of you that love to ride there is a great Atlas put out by HEMA Maps it is called the Australia Motorcycle Atlas it has 200 top rides as described by Peter Thoeming.
Just before you get to Rathdowney there is a turn off to The lions Road which is another Great Bike Road it takes you eventually to Kyogle. The Syder was a pleasure to ride on both these rides and the traction control was a bonus on the corners. After I fueled up at Kyogle I headed of to Nimbin, now that's not a road it's a goat track and a couple of Hippies ran me of the road into the dirt, I was going to spend some time in Nimbin, however after that near death experience I had a coffee and headed of to Byron Bay.
Hey mate, I just had a flashback to 1978, when Pearson & I rode up those roads on pushbikes. We followed the railway a lot of the way - when we got to the border we had to ring a bell at little gate & wait for a bloke to ride up on a horse & open it for us. There was the Lions Road (which was bad) and the Max Symes Road (which was worse). We went through Beaudesert, trying to make it to Brisbane, but by then we had no food or money left & we had to flag down the Brisbane Limited at a tiny tin-hut station called Bromelton and go back to Broadmeadow. In retrospect, it was one of our more spectacularly stupid cycling adventures. Makes much more sense to do this sort of thing on something with a motor.
